MEET BANYAN CRAFT KITCHEN + LOUNGE’S AWARD-WINNING CHEF

Chef Cidney Wilcox's journey from a young culinary enthusiast to an acclaimed chef spans coast to coast, marked by milestones like her Johnson & Wales education, the opportunity to cook for  A-list celebrities in Atlanta and winning Food Network’s “Chopped.” Now the executive chef at Banyans in Oahu, she continues to innovate with a diverse and dynamic dining experience.

CHEF CIDNEY’S STORY

Chef Cidney's background is as diverse and vibrant as her eclectic style. It all began at the age of 12 when she delighted her family with a replicated dish from her older sister – mushroom caviar on garlic roasted minced mushroom crostini – igniting a passion for food that would shape her future. Even at that young age, she dreamed big, expressing her ambition to become Oprah's private chef.

Her formal introduction to the kitchen came at 15 years old, working at Whataburger, where her natural talent shined. At age 18, Chef Cidney attended the prestigious Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina, earning an Associate of Arts degree in culinary arts and chef training.

Chef Cidney's career took her all around the country, from Texas to Atlanta, where she embraced the challenge of becoming a sushi chef, defying stereotypes and excelling in a male-dominated field. Her talent caught the attention of Atlanta's elite, including T.I., The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Da Brat, and Ameer Abdullah, whom she served as a private chef.

Returning to her roots in San Antonio, Texas after overcoming an injury, she demonstrated resilience by starting anew at a bustling burger and taco joint while simultaneously launching a food program at a nearby rooftop bar. Her dedication and culinary skill soon sparked interest from San Antonio Spurs player Patty Mills, whom she cooked for over four years. This past year, Chef Cidney competed on Food Network’s popular show, “Chopped,” participating in Season 58 episode “Spin It to Win It” and was the reigning champion of Round 1. Now she’s bringing her expertise to Oahu with Banyans, promising a dining experience that’s as diverse and dynamic as her journey.⁣

With over twenty years of culinary excellence under her belt and countless events catered, Chef Cidney has accepted the challenge of bringing her exceptional talents to Oahu, where she aims to redefine island dining at Banyans. Her mission remains steadfast: to deliver exceptional, high-quality, and inventive cuisine that challenges and delights the palate, reflecting her passion for food and unwavering commitment to excellence.
